Hello fellow human. How are you?
I'm glad you're here.

My name is Saige (like the spice and wisemen). I am a scientist working towards a better understanding of the most complex, multidimensional system: the human brain. Right now I work as a data scientist in the department of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. I am passionate about contributing to open-science - within my field, across disciplines, and especially work that can reach outside the scientific community. Outside of work, I am very active outdoors and enjoy connecting with fellow outdoor enthusiasts.

(A few of my) Interests:

  • Machine Learning + Deep Learning

  • Clinical & Cognitive Neuroscience

  • Physics

  • Dogs

  • Yoga, Cycling, Skiing, Kayaking

What does ubuntu really mean?

"I am, because you are". In fact, the word ubuntu is just part of the Zulu phrase "Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu", which literally means that a person is a person through other people. Ubuntu has its roots in humanist African philosophy, where the idea of community is one of the building blocks of society. Ubuntu is that nebulous concept of common humanity, oneness: humanity, you and me both.
